If the eyes are the window to the soul, then surely we all want lovely brows to frame them! Balanced and symmetrical eyebrows consist of a natural, yet fashionable shape that opens the eyes and helps to create a vision of beauty.
Try to avoid the trends you see on the runway- focus on a classic shape that flatters your face and unique features. Today we will focus on the key elements to a perfect brow: balance and symmetry, design and shape, color and maintenance.
Consider these guidelines when creating your brow shape:
- Starting point: Where should the brows start? The most common rule is to imagine a line coming up from the tear duct at the corner of your eye.
- Arching: Where should the brows arch? Should each brow arch toward the inside of the eye, or should they arch exactly over the center of the eye? Most ladies begin their arch above the pupil of each eye.
- Ending point: Where should the brows end? To determine where the brows should end, draw a line from the outside corner of the nose to the outer corner of the eye, extending past the brow area. This gives you a finishing point for the brow, which will be in direct proportion, balance and relationship to the nose, eyes and brows.
- Thick vs. thin: How thick or how thin should the brows be? Most brows should have a soft, natural taper to their thickness after the pupil/arch area. You can remove a thin row of individual hairs at a time and then decide if more should be taken. Go slowly and assess changes in a full sized mirror (not a magnifying mirror).
- Eyebrow hair: What if eyebrow hair is too long and unruly? Excessively long hair in the brows makes it difficult to manage balance and symmetry. Consider trimming extra length from the brow using a tiny scissor and clean mascara wand to remove length that extends beyond the natural shape. If you would rather not trim, you can use a grooming product like a lightweight gel to keep the hairs in place.
The most common cosmetic products used to enhance the brow shape are: pencils, tinted wax, pressed powders, clear and tinted brow gel, brow and lash dye (from a licensed Esthetician), bleach for dark brow colors, and permanent makeup/tattoos.
